Mobile Solar Water Pump with IBC Buffer Tank

Built on top of my previous water bowser project, a mobile solar pump. It can easily be moved from one outfarm to another.

I built a fairly rough box out of scraps of wood that were lying around to contain the battery charge controller and an electric fence unit. I mounted a 100W solar panel on top.

100AH leisure battery and Charge controller.

This is the 12V submersible pump that I used.

And this Float switch placed inside the IBC.

All wrapped up ready for transport.

Update Nov 2020: After using this setup for a few months I can report that it worked well while the cattle were out, but I had left it in the field for a few weeks after the cattle came in for winter with the pump still in the river. In this time the pump has seized, to be fair in its description on Amazon it does say not to leave the pump in the water for long periods if not in regular use. I disassembled the pump and cleaned with WD40 and it is back working. The pump was always going to be the weak link in this project and it is a few years old, I’d been using it previously for filling IBC’s from the 12V socket on the back of the tractor. For next season I may upgrade the pump for a heavier duty model.

Update March 2021: I’ve gone with an ECO-WORTHY 24V DC Solar Powered Deep Submersible Water Well Pump as a replacement pump. the pump is 24V but is connected to my 12V system and works perfectly, according to the seller the lift height will be the same at 12V but the flow rate will be reduced by half.
