Recently the PTO clutch of my 135 has been getting difficult to engage. After removing the inspection cover under the tractor I could see the bolts on the end of the clutch fingers were completely worn down, so it was obvious the tractor would need to be split.
I started by removing the bonnet and blocking up the front axle with timber offcuts.
After all of the pipes, wires and steering / throttle linkages were disconnected the tractor was split at the bell housing.
The old clutch and fly wheel were removed and the lip seal was replaced to deal with a minor engine oil leak. This is a late model engine so has a lip seal, earlier models were fitted with a rope seal.
New clutch was fitted and aligned using a clutch alignment tool, transport bolts removed and the 3 bolts at the tips of the fingers adjusted till they are even and checked with a Vernier callipers.
I checked the clearances between the head of these bolts and the PTO clutch with a feeler gauge, they were all set at about 75 thousands of an inch and I left them at that.
With the bonnet off, this was a good opportunity to touch up the paintwork of the bonnet which had become quite faded over the past few years. It’s not quite a restoration, just an old lady getting her makeup on.
I also replaced the seat and steering wheel as they were quite badly worn. Mudguards front grill and a few other bits could do with a touch up too but can wait till I have a little more time.
